Foundation Stone of the Sculpture Symposium

Juraj Čutek / 1995

The artist created the foundation stone from an irregular dark grey boulder that is split in two parts. A crack about 20 cm wide runs through the middle of the boulder. The stone is roughly hewn at the sides and has a smoothly carved surface with an engraved inscription identifying the work as the foundation stone of the Devín Symposium – an international sculpture park. The surface of the smaller stone bears a polished steel button. The work stands atop a wide concrete platform paved with stone blocks.

Additional works from the sculpture symposium are located near the foundation stone on both sides of the waterfront promenade road. However, not all remain in their original location or form. They will be incorporated into the database during the next research phase after documenting their current location and assessing their condition.
