On the embankment below Devín Castle, on a grassy strip between the passenger harbour and the lighthouse, stands a statue of Rastislav. In its original epoxy form, it was located at Slovienská Street. After being cast in bronze, a site for it was chosen about 200 m closer to Devín Castle.
The sculpture Rastislav (Rastic) of Moravia belongs among a group of works in which the artist focused on the personalities and themes of Great Moravia, or the Slavs. Beneath Devín, Rastislav is not portrayed in heroic battle pose, he is seated thoughtfully with his sword on his knees. This depiction refers to historical events connected with defence of the castle and its surrounding territory, when Rastislav spent many years weighing various strategies and forming targeted alliances.
Rastislav's reign is also associated with an invitation of a Byzantine mission to the territory of Great Moravia. Until recently, the sculpture Salonica Brothers by the same artist stood in front of the Roman Catholic Church in Devín to commemorate these events.
Some sources mistakenly give the name of the statue as Svätopluk or King Svätopluk, but it was Rastislav of the Mojmir family (c.820–870), the Great Moravian prince, whose life and exploits are tangibly related to Devín.
