The statue, situated within an open space in front of the polyclinic in Ružinov, depicts a theme that appears repeatedly across the artist's work. The birth of life – a child in the womb – is symbolised by a metal element held within a concentrically graded concrete ring. The mass of the sculpture expresses concentration of energy; it was originally a mobile work with a central motif that rotated about its axis.
The statue stands on a low pedestal that was originally cantilevered and formed part of the surrounding flower beds – the now overgrown vegetation is distracting.
The architect of the polyclinic, Albert Ščepán (Zdravoprojekt Bratislava), planned from the outset to install an artwork in the foreground of the building, and he designed a prominent cantilevered plateau for the purpose. However, to widen the car park, the projecting cantilevered section was insensitively removed, and parts of the cladding were replaced with stone slabs.
The work underwent professional restoration between the end of 2024 and the first half of 2025; the destroyed pedestal was re-cast in concrete, and the stone facing was removed. The work is once more at least partially kinetic, with the central section again rotating. The restoration was carried out by Denis Dvorský, while consultations with Katarína Kissoczy, the artist's daughter, played an important role.
The original cantilevered form of the pedestal cannot be recreated, as a car park for clinic visitors and the Office of Public Health has been constructed in close vicinity of the work.
The work is referred to in the literature under various names – Birth of Life, Protection of Life.
