Relaxation

The fountain, installed at the centre of the small park at the intersection of Karadžičova and Záhradnícka streets, forms part of the artistic design of the apartment complex built there in the 1950s and 1960s.

It has been given names such as Female Nude and Zuzka, but according to surviving archival sources, its title is Relaxation. František Draškovič created numerous statues for Bratislava, their purpose being to highlight feminine beauty. The fountain Relaxation, which features a statue of a young woman, is one such example.

The fountain basin is shaped as an arrowhead, and has a prominently protruding stone rim. On the rim, positioned along its axis, a rectangular pedestal supports the statue of a reclining girl. The girl is naked, her bare feet stretching above the basin. She covers her nakedness with her right hand, and leans on the pedestal with her left arm. Deep in thought, her head slightly tilted, she gazes into the water. A brass plaque with the inscription “F. Draškovič 1973” is mounted on the pedestal. The basin rim and the pedestal are made of white travertine, while the statue is cast in bronze. The basin features three water jets.
