The stainless steel Mária Fountain now stands on the site of a concrete fountain from 1973 by Jozef Jankovič that had been destroyed during the second half of the 1970s. Originally, Mária was situated in the Medical Garden, but when that underwent complete reconstruction in the mid-1980s, Pavel Mikšík replaced it with Swan Fountain and moved Maria Fountain, together with its spacious basin, to Ružinov. In its new location, however, it lost some of the impact of a kinetic object in direct contact with the viewer that had characterised it in the Medical Garden. The work has a biomorphic symmetrical shape reminiscent of a symbolic flower or even a figure whose head is a sphere with splashing strands of water for hair.
The sheen of the stainless steel imparts elegance and creates luminous effects on the surface.
Access to two sides of the fountain is restricted by the close proximity of parked cars.
