Samo Chalupka (1812–1883), younger brother of Ján Chalupka, was a Slovak Romantic poet and Evangelical priest, member of Štúr's Tatrín association, co-author of the Memorandum of the Slovak Nation, and co-founder of Slovak Matica.
His monument stands in a green area in a small park located on the north side of the Jur Hronec Dormitory at the corner of Legionárska and Radlinského streets. The front bears a bust of the writer and faces northwest.
It was designed by the sculptor P. Chrťan and the architect J. Hauskrecht.
The larger-than-life bronze bust is mounted on a large round block of carved stone that sits on a low pedestal. Beneath the bust is the carved inscription: Samo Chalupka 1812–1883.
The bust is rendered in a realistic, expressive style, demonstating an effort to capture the distinctive features of the poet's face.
