Life of the Earth

Adjacent to the Saratov shopping centre stands a ceramic tower of biomorphic shapes that resemble meadow and wetland plants. The upper section forms a stylised marigold with rounded yellow petals and an orange centre. A pillar, the flower stalk, widens in the middle and rounds to a bulbous shape. In this area, the colour of the ceramic tile transitions smoothly from blue to dark green, and upon closer inspection four small reliefs of animals become apparent: frog, lizard, amoeba, and stag beetle.

The rounded square plinth is interwoven with earthy-brown shades of glaze.

The work is secondarily set within a raised circular base with basalt cubes and concrete edging.

The stylised tower-shaped flower originally formed a pendant to the larger _Water Lilie_s fountain in the atrium of the shopping centre. After insensitive removal of the fountain, the thematic and architectural context of the space was lost, and the ceramic flower remains beside the building as only a solitary symbol. Following lengthy decay, it was professionally restored in 2019 and its immediate surroundings were resurfaced with new basalt paving.

Research status as of 15.11.2022.
