Dragon

Štefan Prokop / 1981 – 1983

The relief Dragon is sited on a retaining wall in the southern section of the multifunctional playground on Hanulova Street. It comprises seven consecutive oval and circular segments, within the deep relief (bas-relief) of which is depicted a long three-headed dragon.

The original playground, named Hurricane,  was built in the early 1980s according to a project by the architects Mikuláš Breza and Marian Malovaný. The authors were also involved in the complex art and design work of the playground.

Following extensive reconstruction and modernisation of the playground in 2020 and 2021, the polymer concrete dragon is the only original design element to be preserved. For unknown reasons, part of the restoration included painting it with vibrant colours that do not correspond with the original author's concept.

Research status as of 15.11.2022.
