A sculpture depicting Franz Liszt is the artistic centrepiece of a garden named after this world-famous and exceptionally prolific composer and piano virtuoso (1811–1886). Liszt visited Pressburg several times, and is said to have performed there in 1820. The city also has a square named after him (until 2012, Predstaničné námestie), as well as a pavilion in the aforementioned garden, which is bordered by blocks of buildings between Ventúrska, Prepoštská, Kapitulská, Farská, and Podjazd streets.
The intimate sculpture, created in bronze in slightly larger than life size by the sculptor Ján Kulich, does not bear any textual information. Neither is it a monument to Franz Liszt, whose memorial plaque (Pavel Chrťan, 1961) is found on the façade of the neighbouring building (the former Leopold de Pauli Palace) on Ventúrska Street, instead it stylistically depicts the artist in creative mood, and provides an interesting accent to this remarkable urban and architectural space. Liszt, standing in contrapposto, is wearing a cloak and looking off into the distance. His hands are clasped to his chest, and the slightly raised index finger of his right hand symbolically emphasises the artist's creative moment.
