On the site of the former Jesuit college (previously Ormosdy Palace) opposite the Primatial Palace stands New City Hall, a building designed by the architect Emil Belluš and constructed in the late 1940s for the needs of Bratislava City Hall. In some ways, this remarkable building responds through its external structure to the historic buildings that surround it.
The façade of the oriel of the meeting room that faces Uršulínská Street was artistically completed by the sculptor František Draškovič with two bas-reliefs positioned next to the oriel windows. They were carved from sandstone using the realistic expression typical of the period, which attached importance to the depiction of work. The bas-relief on the left (when looking at the façade) represents a scene from a design activity – three men stand working with rulers at a large drawing table, while a woman sits at her desk operating a period counting machine. The bas-relief on the right shows four men standing on a construction site – the central two expend considerable energy to bend a structural element, while a man holding a trowel looks off into the distance, and another uses a theodolite to take measurements.
