The fountain was created between 2006 and 2007 by the sculptor Martin Lettich in collaboration with the architect Juraj Hermann on commission from MERIUS for their headquarters on Štefánikova Street. The work comprises two elements: the fountain structure itself and the figure of a dowser. The fountain is formed of a central stone basin with four nozzles and a single waterspout, a surrounding recessed area clad in stone, and a stone ring set on a concrete base. Joined to the outer edge of the ring is a stone slab with a “cut-out” rectangle that forms the base for the stylised bronze figure of a man with a large divining rod, its central prong pointing down towards the centre of the fountain. The divining rod is connected to the dowser's hands by two flexible joints such that a light breeze will set it in motion, enabling the fountain to create dynamic effects even in winter when no water is flowing.
Although the work is located in a private courtyard, it is clearly visible from the street and can be viewed from close up during the day.
As a point of interest, Martin Lettrich created a “double” of Bratislava’s Dowser at the request of a certain resident of Brussels; however, it is not an exact replica (the figure was remodelled from scratch). Reportedly, the styled replica still adorns the capital of Belgium.
