Fountain in front of the Pavol Országh Hviezdoslav Monument

As part of a comprehensive urban and architectural renovation of Hviezdoslav Square led by the architects Otto Grossmann and Juraj Šimek, this new fountain was built in 2002 on the site of a fountain that previously stood in front of the Pavol Országh Hviezdoslav Monument. The simple water basin comprises an almost rectangular shape with a rounded edge nearest to the historic building of the Slovak National Theatre.

The basin is separated from the surrounding environment by a low wall clad with polished granite slabs on its upper and outer faces, and with grey painted inner surfaces. The inner top of the wall features water drains. The basin features sixteen nozzles arranged in three longitudinal rows. The two outer rows spray jets of water in arcs toward the central row, from which jets of water are sprayed vertically. These streams symbolise the three hills seen in the emblem of Slovakia.
