The drinking fountain is located in a small square between Obchodná Street and the entrance to Forum Hotel (currently, Crowne Plaza Hotel). Jozef Barinka thoughtfully placed the fountain on a drainage channel that forms the perimeter of a semicircular cutout in the stepped seating area. The square thus provided fresh drinking water as well as a peaceful place to sit and relax away from the bustle of the city. The simple, functional structure comprises a cylindrical andesite stone shaft with a stainless steel drinking spout. The spout is currently missing, leaving only a non-functional torso. Separation of the square from the side streets created a closed, isolated space that does not provide for sufficient social control, and it is often the target of vandalism. Even following revitalisation, it is once again in poor condition.
Forum Hotel was built between 1986 and 1989 in the area bounded by Poštová, Obchodná, Drevená streets and Peace Square (today, Hodža Square), according to a design by a collective of authors (Julián Hauskrecht, Štefan Ďurkovič, Boris Džadoň, Juraj Hermann, Dušan Krepop, Ján Polášek, and Pavel Suchánek). Completion of the hotel was originally intended to be part of a larger complex reconstruction of the block from Poštová Street towards Hurban Square. This ambitious project was ultimately abandoned, and the Forum Hotel building stands in isolation.
