The fountain, in harmony with a nearby statue of the renowned Slovak painter Martin Benka, artistically complements Martin Benka Square. It is located in the central area of the square, in front of the statue and the terrace of Café Justícia.
The square was neglected for many years, with unfinished construction following the clearance of older houses, until the end of the 1990s when an architectural concept was created for a multifunctional building between Krížna and Záhradnícka streets. The project included comprehensive redesign of Martin Benka Square, which fronted the new building, and relocation of the artist’s statue to enhance its façade. A small park with well-maintained greenery and seating was created around the fountain, and underground garages were sited at the edge of the square. Towards Krížna Street is the glass artwork Millenium by Milan Pagáč and Viktor Oravec.
The frame of the fountain, which forms part of the architectural concept of the square, is asymmetrical and slightly elevated. It is laid out longitudinally with concave–convex walls, a rim clad with stone slabs, and a concrete floor. The designers incorporated three illuminated nozzles into the basin and embellished the north-eastern section with two stylised fish sculptures that rest partly in the water and partly on the rim.
