A section of the concrete retaining wall on Radvanská Street is a relief by Milan Dobeš in the form of a horizontal frieze composed of geometric elements – circles, arcs, and squares – characteristic of Dobeš's abstract artistic oeuvre that focused on expressing dynamic and constructive relationships. Set in a concrete wall, his rational composition contrasts with this raw material as order emerging from chaos. The composition rhythmically alternates mathematical variations, permutations, and combinations of geometric shapes that protrude into space, their division and segmentation creating the illusion of movement. In his op-art compositions, Dobeš reduced elements to their minimum and repeated them within endless variations. He thereby created original works of art that earned him international respect and recognition. The emergence of this then-novel art form was influenced by developments in science and technology and by a rationalisation of human activity that conditioned a different aesthetic, expanding it to include new dimensions such as optical games, kinetics, non-artistic materials, and lighting effects.
