The large-scale mosaic is mounted above the main entrance to the building of the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology at STU (formerly the Faculty of Chemical Technology at SVŠT), which was built in 1984 according to a design by Jozef Liščák and Juraj Lupták. The building is connected to the original Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology, designed by Vladimír Karfík between 1950 and 1955, on the side that faces Kollár Square (Jánska Street).
The extension on Radlinského Street became the fourth and final structure, and completed the extensive SVŠT university complex comprising a cohesive block with a shared courtyard.
The glazed ceramic mosaic depicts an imaginary composition of stylised figures and plant motifs complemented by freely arranged geometric shapes that span the breadth of the panel. The harmoniously coordinated colour palette, with its balance of warm and cool tones, enlivens the otherwise uniform appearance of the entrance atrium.
The work’s central theme, a portrayal of scientific- and chemical-technological processes in relation to human life and nature, directly reflects the function of the school building. Veiled by the poetic, even lyrical, visual expression lies a second layer of communication that emphasises youth, scientific achievement, and a general sense of joyful optimism.
